New Initiative\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Recently, President Obama unveiled a bold, new initiative\u00a0called ConnectED to connect 99 percent of America\u2019s students\u00a0to the internet through high-speed broadband \u00a0and high-speed\u00a0wireless within 5 years.<\/p>\n

Internet Connectivity<\/h3>\n

The President also directed the federal government to \u00a0make\u00a0better use of existing funds to get Internet connectivity\u00a0and educational technology into classrooms, and into the\u00a0hands of teachers trained on its advantages.<\/p>\n

Living In A Digital Age<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe are living in a digital age, and to help our students\u00a0get ahead, we must make sure they have access to cutting-edge\u00a0technology,\u201d President Obama said. \u201cSo today, I\u2019m issuing a\u00a0new challenge for America \u2013 one that families, businesses,\u00a0school districts and the federal government can rally around\u00a0together \u2013 to connect virtually every student in America’s classrooms to high-speed broadband internet within five years,\u00a0and equip them with the tools \u00a0to make the most of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skills They Need<\/h3>\n

Preparing America\u2019s students with the skills they need to get\u00a0good jobs and compete with countries around the world will rely\u00a0increasingly on interactive, individualized learning experiences\u00a0driven by new technology. But today, millions of students lack\u00a0high-speed broadband access and fewer than 20 percent of educators\u00a0say their school\u2019s Internet connection meets their teaching needs.\u00a0ConnectED will bring high-speed Internet within their reach, with\u00a0a particular benefit for rural communities that have lagged behind\u00a0in connectivity.<\/p>\n

Private Sector<\/h3>\n

In addition to connecting America\u2019s students, ConnectED harnesses\u00a0the ingenuity of the American private sector get new technologies\u00a0into students\u2019 hands and support digital learning content.<\/p>\n

Support Educators<\/h3>\n

ConnectED also better invests existing federal funds to ensure\u00a0that every educator in America receives support \u00a0and training in\u00a0using education technology tools to improve student learning.<\/p>\n

Increase Broadband<\/h3>\n

The ambitious new vision for digital, connected learning builds\u00a0on work the Administration has done over the past four years to\u00a0increase broadband access across the country.<\/p>\n
